Cranial nerves are twelves nerves projecting directly from the brain to relay information between the brain and different parts of the body

 The first and shortest cranial nerve to provide special sensory of the sense of smell 

 The second cranial nerve to transmit only sensory information for the vision

 The third cranial nerve that provide motor innervation to most extraocular muscles

The fourth and only cranial nerve originate from posterior aspect of midbrain with pure somatic motor function 

The fifth and largest cranial nerve with multiple functions including motor, sensory and parasympathetic innervations

The sixth cranial nerve with only somatic motor function to innervate lateral rectus muscle

The seventh cranial nerve with multi functions including motor, sensory and parasympathetic functions

The eighth cranial nerve with two divisions and purely sensory function

The ninth cranial nerve with mixed fibers including sensory, motor and parasympathetic functions

 The tenth and longest cranial nerve that goes beyond the head and neck to reach the  abdomen with multi functions

The eleventh nerve with pure somatic motor function to innervate sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles

The twelfths cranial nerve with pure somatic motor to innervate all extrinsic and intrinsic muscles of the tongue
